Growth Market Cloud Development: PCG continues to invest in cloud-native future

Cloud development is one of the emerging growth markets, and this is confirmed by the leading research companies Gartner and IDC. Public Cloud Group (PCG) is also focusing on further expansion in this area and is investing in a new business unit. This includes David Müller, who is taking over the management of the business unit in the German-speaking region as Managing Director.

Cloud development continues to gain ground

Cloud-native software and applications continue to gain ground among cloud solutions. As early as 2022, Gartner forecasted annual spending on software-as-a-service (SaaS) and application development to exceed $180 billion. For 2023, the international research and consulting company foresees further growth of 20.7%.

This makes the development of cloud-native applications one of the fastest growing trends in the technology industry. Gartner and IDC predict that 90-95% of applications will be cloud-native by 2025.

Through expertise and many years of cooperation with the most relevant hyperscalers AWS, Google and Microsoft, the experts at PCG offer close integration of infrastructure and cloud development from a single source. The focus is on the development of highly scalable, robust and secure applications for the digitization of business models.

PCG’s Cloud Development unit currently comprises around 150 cloud developers, 50 of whom are based in Germany, and is growing rapidly. This makes PCG’s development competence the largest unit within the company. By the end of 2023, further growth to over 200 employees is targeted. This means that the development area accounts for around 50% of PCG’s workforce.

Strong leadership gained for cloud development

“I am at PCG, which is currently the best place for people with focus, interest and fun in cloud transformation and cloud development. Cloud development in the context of cloud solutions – this is THE growth market within the global growth market. What could be more exciting?” is how David Müller, Managing Director of the Cloud Development business unit at PCG, describes his new area of responsibility.

“Without application know-how, there is no digital transformation! David has understood cloud development like no other in the market and will change the world of cloud-native software with his vision, experience and agile leadership approaches not only for us as PCG, but especially for our customers!” adds Oliver Schallhorn, CEO of PCG.

Shortly after the hyperscalers celebrated their founding and market entry in Europe, Müller started his career as a cloud developer and subsequently acted as team leader of a development division. As CTO of Incloud Engineering GmbH, he built it up as a leading enterprise application agency in the DACH region with a focus on AWS, Azure and Google. After an acquisition in 2020, he grew the business unit to 130 employees and established the portfolio around cloud development, mobile development, IoT and digital business models as division manager.

As Managing Director of the Cloud Development business unit, Müller will assume overall portfolio responsibility for PCG’s cloud-native business. The objective is a further expansion in the German-speaking market in order to provide customers with ideal support on their cloud journey through the development and modernization of applications. He also leads the internal “Tech-Group” initiative, which is dedicated to extending the company’s lead in technological excellence and driving strategic innovation.

“David not only combines years of expertise in the technical and strategic responsibilities of cloud development, but has consistently demonstrated his competencies around leadership, entrepreneurship and positioning over the past several years. An ideal combination to bring PCG to the forefront of cloud development experts.” Thorsten Raquet, COO of PCG, completes.
