Bergfreunde GmbH is an online specialist retailer of mountain sports, climbing and outdoor equipment. The product range comprises 40,000 items from over 900 brands for ambitious climbers, expedition mountaineers and sports and nature enthusiasts in the big city. The online pure player sells the range exclusively via the online store, which is individualized and localized for twelve European markets, including the Netherlands and France. The online outdoor retailer employs 650 people at its administrative site in Kirchentellinsfurt and logistics site in Ergenzingen near Tübingen.
The Challenge
Bergfreunde 
needed to move it's core service, the online store, from on-premise to the cloud because the old provider no longer offered the desired reliability and modernization options. At the same time, they wanted to use this opportunity to modernize their architecture.
The Solution
We helped Bergfreunde build a modern microservices-based architecture in GKE and helped build an IaC and CI/CD pipeline to ensure the entire deployment process could be automated. Once the migration is complete, our team will take over the operation of all infrastructure components.
Results and Benefits
Bergfreunde are now able to run their entire web store in a modern microservice-based environment. This improves reliability, scalability and development speed. At the same time, they can rely on us to take care of all the operational needs of their environment, while they continue to receive GCP support whenever it is needed.
