About Barin Sports

Barin Sports is an innovative provider of real-time sports analytics, delivering advanced performance data and insights to teams, athletes, and analysts. By combining IoT and physiological metrics, the company enhances decision-making and competitive advantage for clients in the professional sports industry.

The Challenge

In elite sports, the difference between peak performance and injury can come down to the smallest overlooked detail. Yet even with cutting-edge sensors and real-time monitoring, Barin Sports found themselves facing a familiar challenge: too much data, not enough insight. Internal teams struggled to get the most out of information that was fragmented across formats, sources, and tools. To get the performance of the data up to the same high level as their athletes, they needed a system that could pull together physiological, performance, and even medical data—and deliver timely, trustworthy answers to support critical decisions.

As such, Barin Sports aimed to provide their teams with intuitive access to their vast and complex datasets, but they lacked a platform for interacting with it efficiently. The goal was to build a cloud-native, AI-powered analytics portal capable of transforming fragmented data sources into actionable insights—without compromising on security, usability, or compliance.

Additionally, Barin sought to expand its analytics capabilities to include blood test results as a new data vertical. By integrating this sensitive health information with existing GPS and physiological data, the company aimed to gain a more holistic view of player readiness, supporting proactive health and training strategies.

Business and technical challenges included:

  • Aggregating data from Amazon S3 sources into unified dashboards
  • Providing secure access to sensitive data for internal user
  • Enabling AI-assisted analysis and visualisation
  • Building a scalable solution aligned with AWS best practices
The Solution

PCG designed and implemented a scalable cloud-native analytics platform using AWS services, combining real-time data analysis with secure access and AI-enhanced features. The architecture leverages event-driven and managed services to minimise operational overhead and support future extensibility. This includes the ability to process blood test results through a custom-built OCR pipeline that extracts structured data from uploaded medical documents, further enriching the insight landscape.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Athena + QuickSight Data Layer
Historical and incoming data was queried using Amazon AthenaExternal Link and visualised through Amazon QuickSightExternal Link dashboards
  • AI-Powered Enhancements with Amazon BedrockExternal Link
AI summarisation and anomaly detection enriched the data analysis experience
  • OCR Pipeline for Blood Test Results
Custom tool for uploading and processing scanned medical reports using AI-driven text extraction, feeding structured data into the analytics pipeline
  • Amazon CloudWatchExternal Link Monitoring
End-to-end observability and log analytics ensured reliable operations and diagnostics
  • Terraform for Infrastructure-as-Code
Entire platform deployed and managed using Terraform for repeatability and scalability

This modular architecture ensured the system was secure, compliant, and extensible for future enhancements.

Results and Benefits

By implementing a secure and scalable analytics solution on AWS, Barin Sports was able to fundamentally transform its internal data operations. The platform not only enabled real-time access to data but also introduced AI-powered automation that enhanced both the speed and quality of insights.

The platform significantly improved how Barin Sports accesses and acts on business intelligence.

Technical Results

  • Fully functional, cloud-native analytics portal built and delivered
  • AI-enhanced dashboards summarise trends and anomalies automatically
  • Ongoing implementation of secure access and identity management using Amazon Cognito
  • Scalable data pipeline supports both historical queries and real-time inputs

Business Benefits

In addition to meeting the technical objectives, the platform delivered a range of tangible business outcomes. These benefits directly support Barin Sports’ strategic goals by improving internal efficiency, fostering data-driven decision-making, and enabling long-term scalability.

  • Reduced time-to-insight for internal decision-makers
  • Improved data transparency across departments
  • Lower maintenance overhead through automation and AWS-native services
  • Strong foundation for future analytics and AI use cases

Looking to the Future

With a functional PoC delivered, Barin Sports is well-positioned to expand the platform further. The company has already begun enhancing its analytics capabilities by integrating new types of data, including blood test results. By combining these medical diagnostics with existing GPS and performance metrics, they aim to predict player readiness and injury risk even before the athlete steps onto the pitch. This evolution marks a shift from reactive analytics to proactive health monitoring, with potential applications across multiple sports disciplines.

To build on these foundations, several key development areas are already underway or planned:

  • Advanced AI Features
Exploring additional Amazon Bedrock integrations to support predictive analytics across combined physiological and performance datasets
  • Interactive UI Enhancements
Developing a modern, intuitive interface to improve accessibility and allow internal users to interact more easily with AWS services
  • User Feedback Loop
Iterating on the platform’s design and functionality based on feedback from internal users and stakeholders
  • Feature Roadmap
Planning future integration with external platforms and potential mobile extensions to support broader use cases

Together, these improvements are designed to make the platform even more valuable to coaches, analysts, and medical staff—putting smarter tools in the hands of decision-makers and paving the way for future innovation in performance analytics.
