Multi Cloud and Hybrid Cloud

The main difference lies in how the various cloud resources are used and integrated.
In a Multi-Cloud environment, the focus is on using services from multiple independent public cloud providers—also known as hyperscalers—such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, simultaneously. Think of it as consciously using the best tools from different providers for different tasks—for example, running an e-commerce platform with provider A while your data analytics workloads run with provider B. These environments are primarily set up separately and managed independently, although they can communicate with each other via APIs. The goal here is often risk diversification, avoiding "vendor lock-in" (i.e., dependency on a single provider), and accessing specialized services.
In contrast, Hybrid Cloud refers to the seamless integration and orchestration of public cloud services with your existing private cloud or on-premises infrastructure. Essentially, it creates a bridge between your data center and the public cloud. This results in a unified, extended IT environment where you can flexibly move workloads and data between environments. The primary goal here is often compliance with strict data protection and regulatory requirements (by keeping sensitive data on-premises), utilizing existing infrastructure investments, and dynamically scaling ("cloud bursting") into the public cloud when needed.

As a company, there are no specific prerequisites for considering a Multi-Cloud or Hybrid Cloud strategy right away.However, it is definitely beneficial to have a clear understanding of your goals in the cloud from the outset, such as cost savings, avoiding vendor lock-in, scaling existing infrastructure, simplifying international expansion, gaining access to specialized services, and so on.
